About National Center for Traditional Arts

Located on the banks of the Dongshan River in Yilan, the National Center for Traditional Arts was designed with the goal of preserving Taiwan’s traditional arts while supporting their renewal and innovation. The exterior of the National Center for Traditional Arts is red tile with modern elements. All buildings and streets represent the life of earlier Taiwan; renovations in 2016 added new facilities.

The National Center for Traditional Arts is a 24-hectare park complex that includes traditional Taiwanese performing arts, traditional theater, open-air theater, modern theater, Wenchang Temple, exhibition center, traditional craftsmen’s workshop, traditional music hall, library, and lodging facilities. Visitors can feel close to traditional arts and participate in DIY activities. There are also traditional Yilan games, experiences, and games for visitors to learn more about Yilan’s history.

The restaurant in the center offers traditional Yilan food and snacks. Yilan food is very delicious, so try to eat as much of it as possible. In addition, there are many handicraft stores that are popular among tourists. You can also buy interesting handicrafts as souvenirs. Exhibitions and performances are also held in the center.

How to get there

Public Transportation
Train: Get off at Luodong Train Station. Take a cab or Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Bus (one every 30-60 minutes) to the National Center for Traditional Arts.
