The former residence covers an area of more than 4,300 square meters, divided into the front garden, the main building and the back garden. Since 1963, Song Qingling moved to Beijing, and only came back to live in her former residence in Shanghai every year during the Chinese New Year. Song Qingling died in Beijing on May 29, 1981, and the residence was opened to the public as her former residence in Shanghai for posterity, and in October 1981, it was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit in Shanghai, and in 2001, it was approved by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit and a patriotic education base in Shanghai.
