About Green Island
Green Island is located in the eastern part of Taitung County, 18 nautical miles from Taitung, with an area of 15,034 square kilometers, making it the fourth largest island in the county after Penghu Island, Lan Island, and Yuyin Island. Air transportation: Taitung Airport – Green Island Airport
By sea: Fuhang Fishing Harbor, Taitung County – Lanyu Township, Fuhang Fishing Harbor, Taitung County – Green Island Township (Nanliao Fishing Harbor), about 2 hours.
The main mode of transportation on the island is by motorcycle, which takes about one hour for a 20-km round-the-island ride. There are many bike rental stores on the island, but they do not provide gasoline, so you will need to go refuel immediately after renting a bike. The only gas station on land is located in Nanliao Village and is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, so travelers should be aware of this.
The main road in Green Island Township is the Island Ring Road (East 90), which is paved and has no traffic lights.

According to Yami legend, the Yami people of Green Island migrated from Lantau Island. The story is told among the Yami of Lanyu that once the son and daughter of the stone god married, and the son and daughter of the bamboo god also married, and their children married again, but the children born were deaf or mute, and all suffered from cartilage disease.
When the heavenly deity who created the stone and bamboo deities came to Lanyu again, he was furious at the sight and accused the stone and bamboo deities of violating the will of heaven and drove all the handicapped children to Green Island.
After the Han Chinese reclaimed Green Island, the Yami people who lived there returned to Lanyu.
Green Island is very close to Taitung Bay and can be reached within 18 nautical miles by boat. Green Island has a small airport with a runway of less than 1 km, and tourists can also fly to Green Island. Located in the warm Pacific Ocean, Green Island is a natural fishing ground for tourist fish. Fish species such as clams, mackerels, carp, eels, Japanese anchovies, halibut, hagfish, and flying fish are abundant.
